The Terminal
When it opened in 1938, the airport was an air force base known as RAF Ringway, named after the nearby hamlet. The terminal has undergone substantial redevelopment over the years and at present comprises three terminals which are connected by “Skylink” and “Travelators” to help with passenger access.
Manchester is the only airport in the UK, apart from London Heathrow, to operate two runways, and covers an area of 560 hectares.
The terminal handled over 27.8 million passengers in 2017 and is presently undergoing a an expansion program that will double the size of Terminal 2, increasing capacity to up to 50 million passengers a year.
