The peak holiday month of August might be nearing an end but summer in the sun-blessed Murcia region officially continues well into September. With that in mind, the tourism institute (Itrem) has put together a list of 22 “gastro-experiences” that visitors can still enjoy throughout the Costa Cálida.
These “original and immersive” experiences are being organised in 14 different municipalities by private companies involved in the tourism sector. They include rafting trips through the rice fields of Calasparra (with a photographic memento and a rice tasting) and a traditional fishing expedition in the Mar Menor in San Pedro del Pinatar.
Other activities include learning how to brew craft beer, becoming a farmer for a day, planting a fruit tree, taking part in a wine getaway, delving into the future of food through micro-algae, olive oil production and hydroponic crops, and creating and tasting chocolate trompe l’oeil.
According to minister for tourism Marcos Ortuño, “The uniqueness of these experiences lies in the fact that they not only allow you to taste typical products and dishes, but also to learn more about, enjoy and participate first-hand in the region’s culinary culture.”
The various experiences can be searched by municipality, date, duration and/or price at the website 1001saboresrm.es.
In the meantime, one of the best ways to stay refreshed in Murcia this summer is to savour one of these cooling drinks.
