Spring is arguably the best time to visit Spain. The weather, especially on Murcia’s Costa Cálida, is ideal for outdoor pursuits and al fresco pleasures, and the peak summer tourists still haven’t arrived. Almost the entire country is also blossoming with vivid spring blooms.
As Spain’s tourism board notes, “Fewer visitors and cooler temperatures at this time of year make spring the perfect time to explore Spain in comfort, discovering the country’s authentic culture and extraordinary landmarks and landscapes.”
To help tourists take full advantage of these “shoulder-season” months, from March to May, SpainInfo has named its top five destinations to visit at this time of the year: Palma de Mallorca, Sevilla, Cieza, Barcelona and Castilla y León.
Located north-west of Murcia city, about 55 kilometres from Corvera Airport Murcia, Cieza is described as having one of the most spectacular natural spring sights: its colourful peach trees. “Cieza itself is a historic town overflowing with history and, each spring, the environs of the town light up with vibrant pink blossoms – La Floración en Cieza.”
In 2023, a new Vía Verde greenway opened, enabling visitors to enjoy the flower blossoms at their most stunning, and the tourism authorities also highly recommend visiting the nearby Murcia city. “Travellers should not miss a visit to the region’s capital, which is home to extraordinary Moorish history and awe-inspiring Baroque architecture.”
