Following on from a recent meeting that took place on the 14th of November, taxi drivers in Murcia have agreed upon a flat €29 fare for services to and from Corvera Airport. This will of course come into place when the airport opens for operations next year on January the 15th. The announcement comes after much debate over recent months over how taxis and fares will be operated once services are moved away from San Javier Airport, which will be ceasing commercial flight activity following the opening of Corvera Airport.
The system is similar the one already in place in Madrid, where there is a flat fare of €30 for taxi fares to and from the airport. However, there is a meter system in place for destinations outside of the M-30, similar to other taxi services. It has not yet been decided if there will be a similar variable system in place at Corvera Airport for other services, but this will likely be decided upon at a later date prior to the opening date next year.
The meeting also included embers of the regional government from the department of development, who proposed that the number of taxis on duty at the terminal building at any time should be 24. This number was agreed upon, but will be reviewed again at a later date once demand for taxi services at Corvera Airport can be properly assessed.
The original proposal had the number of taxis at a lower amount, with 15 being previously suggested. This also included a duty rota of three 8 hour shifts, meaning that the service will cover a 24 hour period. These details have not yet been confirmed, but are likely up for further review once the demand for taxi services is assessed again.
