In a look back at passenger numbers at Corvera airport for February 2019, the airport management company Aena, published a report showing an increase in numbers of people through the airport compared to the same time period at San Javier the previous year.
The total number of passengers passing through Murcia Corvera in February 2019 was 45,149. This represented an increase of 2.5% from the numbers seen at San Javier airport in February 2018. After initial lower numbers in January 2019 as the airport was opening, the increase represents a return to the pattern of year on year increases in passenger numbers. Of the passenger numbers, 84.3% were passengers on flights between the UK and Murcia.
Initially there may have been some queries about the location of Murcia Corvera airport and whether it would hold up against the likes of Alicante airport which was always the alternative to the San Javier airport. It is also true that the San Javier was a much-loved and popular airport. However, the continued success of the new airport is proving that the more inland location can certainly hold its own and has a great deal of appeal for all those looking for an even easier connection right into the city of Murcia as well as those who frequent the number of golf courses located within short driving distances of the new airport.
