Tourists arriving at Corvera Airport Murcia throughout summer will be able to use a free bus service for transfers to Murcia city and Cartagena.
Subsidised by the regional government, the service is due to be launched on Monday 5 June and will include 12 daily trips to the region’s two largest cities until 15 September.
According to the ministry of development and infrastructure, one of the objectives of the initiative – apart from helping to promote tourism – is to revitalise municipalities throughout the Costa Cálida by encouraging more sustainable mobility options.
The idea, explained director general for mobility and coastal areas Marina Munuera, “is to take advantage of the increase in passenger numbers that the airport experiences during the summer season and divert this influx of tourists to both cities’ bus stations in order to facilitate their connection with the region’s main tourist destinations. It is also so that people can access the airport in a more efficient and environmentally friendly way.” To that end, the service will “fulfil economic and environmental sustainability criteria laid down by the European Green Pact”.
Users will be able to consult information panels at the airport and on the Interbus website. They will also be able to check the route and location of the bus in real time through a geolocation system available on the website.
