A new “Sustainability Hub” launched by the Spanish Tourist Office in London includes Murcia’s eco-tourism routes as one of its main attractions.
According to the STO, “The hub is dedicated to demonstrating Spain’s sustainable tourism initiatives… and will also showcase the incredible geographic diversity of Spain, highlighting some lesser-known areas of the country.”
In addition to being aimed at media, partners and the trade, the hub also aims to inform tourists about Spain’s sustainability initiatives under one banner. To that end it will feature news stories, images and videos from the office, as well as providing links to relevant press pieces in the trade and national press.
“We are excited to launch our sustainability hub,” said Manuel Butler, director of the Spanish Tourist Office (UK), “which is in line with a wider strategic focus to become a more competitive and sustainable tourism destination with a focus on seasonal and geographical diversification as well as economic, social and environmental sustainability. We want this platform to also showcase some of the excellent tangible examples of sustainability in action within Spain’s tourism industry.”
The hub currently showcases Sierra Espuña Nature Park, Murcia’s prime ecotourist destination, “which has an impressive natural environment with a vast expanse of trees thanks to the reforestation work that has been carried out in the region. The park has a varied landscape, from the Paredes de Leyva cliff faces and ravines of Gebas and Barranco de la Hoz to the Muela plateau waterfall and surrounding reservoirs.”
Six new sustainable tourism experiences have been launched in the Sierra Espuña Nature Park and its surrounding area. They have been designed for visitors of all ages and physical conditions, with the objective of offering “distinctive ways in which to enjoy the fresh air and direct contact with nature. The six ecotourism experiences will allow visitors to uncover the historic forest full of traditions, culture and flavours.”
Itineraries have been created with various themes: Adventure; Among Birds; On Wheels; Panoramic Moment; Flavour Route; and Paths. “These provide something for everyone, whether it is taking in the breathtaking views of the park while paragliding or sampling local organic produce.”
