Volotea plans to offer an exclusive route between Bilbao’s Loiu Airport and Corvera Murcia Airport from May next year. A specialist airline operator covering mid and small-sized cities around Europe, Volotea says it will link Bilbao with Corvera twice a week, for the first time and exclusively, offering 9,100 seats.
Launched from 27 May, the flight schedule is:
- Bilbao-Murcia
- May to July – Wednesdays and Saturdays 7am
- July to August – Wednesdays 6.45am and Saturdays 7am
- Murcia-Bilbao
- May to July – Wednesdays and Saturdays 1pm
- July to August – Wednesdays 9.40pm and Saturdays 1pm
Since January 2019, Volotea has transported more than 200,000 passengers from Bilbao, 64 per cent more than for the same period the previous year. From June to September the company transported over 92,000 passengers and reached 98 per cent occupancy on all flights and a 100 per cent compliance rate, which means they did not cancel any flights. During this period the company reached a punctuality rate of 87 per cent (OTP 15 Arrivals- Flightstats).
Announcing the new link, Volotea founder and CEO Carlos Muñoz Beraza said, “We are delighted to add Murcia to the 12 destinations that we already offer from Bilbao, where Volotea had a very good reception. Bilbao and Murcia are two very special cities for us, and for me personally, being half from each city. We hope it will be a great success for travellers.”
Burgeoning European-Wide Network
Volotea has carried more than 22 million passengers since its first flight in 2012. In 2019, the company opened 41 new routes to serve a total line-up of 319 routes, operating flights to more than 80 mid and small-sized European cities in 13 countries: France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Greece, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Portugal, Malta, Austria, Ireland, Luxembourg and Morocco. The airline expects to have carried between 7.5 and eight million passengers by the end of 2019.
Volotea currently has 13 bases: Venice, Nantes, Bordeaux, Palermo, Strasbourg, Asturias, Verona, Toulouse, Genoa, Bilbao, Marseille and Athens (the last three inaugurated in 2018) and Cagliari (launched in May this year).
This year, Volotea has been operating its network with 36 aircraft – Boeing 717s and Airbus A319s – after adding six additional aircraft in 2019. Both models are recognised for their comfort and reliability, notes Volotea, including reclining seats that are five per cent wider than the average in airlines.
“The Airbus A319 is the aircraft model selected for its future growth and will allow the company to increase its passenger capacity by 25 per cent to 156 seats and to serve longer routes.”
