The president of the Community, Fernando Lopez Miras , said on Saturday that “Justice has again given us the reason and supports, that all the decisions and efforts of the regional government to start up the International Airport of the Region of Murcia have been the correct ones to defend the general interest. Miras added that “in the Government of the Region we have a clear road map regarding the airport and it is none other than commissioning and starting the activity as soon as possible”.
The chief executive of Murcia made such statements after hearing the order issued by the Supreme Court, completed on Saturday exclusively for “The Truth”, which rejected the appeal filed by the former Aeromur concessionaire . The resolution definitively grants the Autonomous Community the possession of the Corvera airport facilities.
The magistrates validated the decision taken by the Governing Council almost five years ago, when it proceeded to withdraw the concession to Aeromur for breaching the contract and putting the facilities into operation. The High Court also rejected the six motives that supported the appeal of Sacyr – the construction company that was in charge of the Aeromur agreement – and the sentence to pay the costs.
“We have taken the necessary steps to have a new airport manager,” said López Miras, referring to the signature on February 24 of the management, operation and maintenance contract signed with Aena, adding that “this is what all of them deserve, the Murcians. He also stressed that “the importance of this infrastructure is undoubtedly going to make us stronger and more competitive”.
“Finally,” he concluded, ” the doors of the International Airport are going to open and, with it, the Region of Murcia is going to take off into the future.”
