One of the early innovators of low-cost air travel, EasyJet was established in 1995 by Stelios Haji-Ioannou, a British Cypriot entrepreneur. The airline has grown to be one of the most important go-to companies for budget travel, operating over 820 routes covering more than 30 countries.
The headquarters at London Luton Airport oversees operations that carried over 80 million people in 2017 and the company employs almost 11,000 people across Europe, making it the second largest European airline. In July 2017 EasyJet launched a new airline, Easyjet Europe, based in Vienna.
EasyJet at Corvera
In June 2018, EasyJet CEO Johan Lundren met with Jamie Garcia Legaz, president of Aena, the airport’s franchise operator.
At the meeting Lundren confirmed EasyJet’s commitment to the new international airport at Corvera, stating that operations then running out of San Javier’s facilities would transfer to the new Murcia airport scheduled to open in January 2019.
