Corvera Airport Murcia has been named “best airport in Europe” for a third consecutive year. The award was presented by Airports Council International (ACI) in the category for airports with fewer than two million annual passengers. (In 2023, passenger numbers at Corvera Airport Murcia totalled 877,796.)
The award is part of the Airport Service Quality (ASQ) program, which – according to national Spanish airport operator Aena – values a commitment to improving the passenger experience at airport facilities. The awards are based on survey questionnaires conducted among travellers to determine and rate their perception of the quality of airport services, including such aspects as access, facilities, staff friendliness, security and waiting times at the security checkpoint.
Welcoming the award, Carlos Domingo San Martín, general manager of the Corvera Airport Murcia concessionary company, said, “Receiving this distinction as the best airport in Europe in its category, for the third consecutive year, is on the one hand recognition of the commitment by all of us to continuously improve our services, a commitment we share with the regional government, the airlines that opt to use the airport, the Murcia region as a whole and other institutions and companies with whom we work day by day in a coordinated manner.
“On the other hand, it represents an enormous challenge and stimulus to live up to the milestone, and not only maintain but also improve this excellent valuation by our passengers and users, strengthening even more our effort to offer the best travel experience to all those who arrive in our region through the airport facilities.”
In total, nine airports in Aena’s Spanish network were honoured in this year’s ACI awards in their respective passenger number and other associated categories, also including: Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, Palma de Mallorca, Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, Menorca, Almería, Girona-Costa Brava, Reus and El Hierro.
Aena president and CEO Maurici Lucena, expressed his gratitude for the awards, which “are the fruit of the work and efforts of all the Aena teams and motivate us to continue our efforts to offer passengers service of the highest quality”.
