The new Region of Murcia International Airport is increasing its reach and next week will have a route with Ibiza that will be operated by Air Nostrum. This service will be available for less than two months and will have a frequency of one flight per week.
Specifically, it will link the Region of Murcia with Ibiza every Thursday from February 7 to March 28. The arrival time at Corvera airport will be at 1:00 pm and the return at 13:40. It is unknown for now if this service will have continuity in the face of the summer season. The regional flight company Air Nostrum, which operates in partnership with Iberia, served the San Javier airport for two decades with the Madrid route, until it ceased operations two years ago.
The company Volotea announced the establishment, starting in May, of the first national route that will operate from Corvera and that will link it with Asturias. The airline, owned by Murcian businessman Carlos Muñoz, has been selling tickets since November, when he announced the launch of this service, and does not rule out opening other routes with Northern Spain. Meanwhile, the head of Iberia is studying the feasibility of flights to Madrid and Barcelona, according to the commitment he reached with President López Miras.
The Ministry of Development indicated that the new airport “strengthens the image of the Region as a tourist destination”. He explained that since its opening, on January 15, in addition to the regular commercial flights contracted, “it is offering an additional service of flights to strengthen the Murcia region brand and allow more tourists to come”.
These include the new route with Ibiza, as well as another weekly flight with Poland that will be operated this summer by TUI, as the regional government announced at the recent International Tourism Fair (Fitur).
Saint Petersburg flight
The Ministry of Development added that the attractiveness of the Region of Murcia as a sporting destination allows many teams to travel to the area to make their pre-season preparation. He gave as an example a charter flight that arrived on Thursday from St. Petersburg with a sports team.
Also, next week there will be four charter flights that will link Murcia with Tegel Airport in Berlin, with the aim of facilitating the Murcian entrepreneurs attending the Fruit Logistica, the most important in the fruit and vegetable sector together with Fruit Attraction.
These flights are marketed by Germania and Air Nostrum. The first will have two flights, departing from the new airport on February 5 at 1:00 pm and returning on February 8 at 7:15 pm. Likewise, Air Nostrum offers a flight that departs on February 6 at 8.00 am and will return to the Region on February 8 at 14.10.
