People travelling through Corvera Airport Murcia can now obtain a special badge to indicate they have “invisible disabilities”. The badge can be requested through the Aena website, in both digital and physical format. It enables airport staff to identify passengers with special needs, and to facilitate and enhance their airport experience.
According to Aena, staff who look after people with reduced mobility (PRM), members of the airport’s customer attention team and employees stationed at the security control points have been specially trained to provide them with tools for helping these passengers and “avoiding misunderstandings due to the fact that the disability is not obvious”.
The initiative is aimed at assisting people who have difficulties in stressful environments and when faced with too much sensory stimulation. The symbol on the badge indicates that its bearer may need support, help or simply understanding and a little more time before any specific airport process, and facilitates their passage, “as far as possible”, at the security checkpoint and other key airport areas.
The badge is only valid for the airport and the day of the flight requested, but it is not necessary for the traveller to wear it visibly for the duration of their passage through the airport.
Those people with invisible disabilities who prefer to transit independently, without wearing the badge, have at their disposal an array of tools aimed at facilitating their trip, while various support materials can be downloaded from the Aena website to help them plan and learn about the entire airport process in advance.
Aena stressed that Corvera Airport Murcia is “fully committed to universal accessibility and therefore works daily to raise awareness among its staff and adapt its facilities to the special needs of passengers, their families and companions”.
The badge initiative was launched by Aena in April and the operator has been gradually introducing it at other airports around the country.
